Hydrosol Hydrosol is the pure natural water that is produced during the distillation process. When plants or flowers are put into the still, they are subjected to steam. This steam hits the plant, softens the scent cells and the essential oil that is contained within is released as vapor. The essential oil vapor is mixed with the steam until it passes through a condenser which cools it and allows them to separate. The essential oil floats to the top of the collection flask and leaves scented water on the bottom. This highly scented water is "Hydrosol". True hydrosols cannot be manufactured synthetically. Hydrosols should be stored in a cool place for long term storage. Both Lavender and Rose Geraniums are distilled using steam distillation techniques at our farm. We use a copper still to achieve a sweeter smelling oil and hydrosol. Some uses of Lavender Hydrosol are:
Rose Water Rose Hydrosol, also known as rose water is the water produced when Rose Geraniums are distilled. It is heavily scented with the essence of roses. Rosewater has been used through the millenniums for religious ceremonies, as a courtesy to guests, for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
